      Ali Sethi

The multi-faceted nature of Ali Sethi’s artistic endeavours beautifully encompass the talent and diversity of the musician. Known by many titles including novelist, journalist, academic and, of course, musician, Ali Sethi has become a household name in an incredibly short amount of time.

In the midst of his South Asian Studies degree at Harvard, Sethi began his musical journey with a rendition of ‘Aaj Jaanay Ki Zidd Na Karo’ in 2005. A beautiful marriage of his literary and artistic sensibilities, Ali Sethi’s foray into music was a natural step in an extension of his talents.
Having been an avid listener of semi-classical, traditional and folk music, Sethi’s musical and literary trajectory led him to formally train with revered musician, Ustad Naseeruddin Saami since 2008.

With his thoughtful and unique approach towards music, Ali Sethi has managed to pave the way for his own extraordinary sound. He made his debut with a soulful version of ‘Dil Jalanay Ki Baat’ which was featured in Mira Nair’s Reluctant Fundamentalist in 2013 and has since independently released a multitude of songs including ‘Mohabbad Karnay Waley’, ’Mahi Mera’ and a very poignant rendition of ‘Chan Kithan’. To add to his diverse discography, the trailblazer has recently collaborated with British Band ‘Swet Shop Boys’ to create an anthem for the South Asian Community with the track ‘Aaja’.

Now in his third season for Coke Studio, Ali Sethi explores new ways to create an unparalleled experience for the listener.
